Desert Christian’s Tyson Dobbins has eclipsed the 2,000 career scoring mark and he is only a junior, which means he is in position to become the most prolific scorer in Southern Arizona history.
Dobbins is at 2,002 points after finishing this season with 887 points, which falls behind only the 939 scored by Chuck Overton of Cholla in 1991-92.
His 2,002 points are only 237 from the 2A state record of 2,239 held by Travis Hice of Antelope Union (1995-97).
He is 1,385 points from the state record of 3,387 set by Robert Burries of Globe from 2015-19. That may be insurmountable but the Southern Arizona record of 2,901 held by Terrell Stoglin of Santa Rita (2007-10) may be within reach.
Dobbins also has career totals of 533 rebounds, 307 assists, 313 steals and 84 blocked shots.
Dobbins scored at least 40 points in a game four times this season, including 43 in an 80-77 loss to the Camp Verde in the 2A state first-round game.
He averaged 28.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 4.7 steals and 1.7 blocked shots this season.
Given his high level of production, Dobbins the Jet Sports Training Male Athlete of the Month for February.
