Mireia Jurado, a 6-foot guard with international experience on Spain’s U17 FIBA Women’s World Cup Team, has switched her allegiance from SMU to Arizona and first-year coach Becky Burke.
Jurado signed with former SMU coach Toyelle Wilson last November and was released from her financial agreement after Wilson was fired and former Arizona coach Adia Barnes was hired to lead the Mustangs’ program.
Jurado is a native of Avinyó, Spain who has made multiple appearances on Europe’s biggest basketball stages.
She also played for Segle XXI club team out of Spain.
Her international basketball career started early as she was runner-up in the Spain U-12 Championship team as part of the Catalonian Team.

While playing with Barca BCS in the Spanish Liga Femenina Challenge, she led the team to a fourth-place finish. Was part of the Catalonian team that won the U16 Spanish Championships and was part of Spain’s national team that was runner up at the European Championships.
Burke has gone from having only Barnes holdover Montaya Dew on the roster upon her hire April 9 to now having 13 players. Burke has an allotment of 15 scholarships.
Jurado is versatile at 6-foot, able to play both guard positions and wing.
The roster includes seven players who can compete on the perimeter and six whose skills are more on the frontcourt.
Jurado is the fourth true freshman to join the program with guard Molly Ladwig, forward OgheneRuona Miracle and forward Daniah Trammell.
Kamryn Kitchen, a Class of 2025 guard, reclassified before this school year and redshirted at Virginia.
