Tanque Verde’s young lineup (with only one senior on its roster) is led by one of the youngest players who evolved into a captain last year as a freshman — pitcher Claire Achilles.
Achilles was a significant reason why Tanque Verde went 7-1 in the month of April, including a win over Empire and its ace Kendall Freidinger.
Achilles batted .434 (10 of 23) with three home runs and eight RBIs in April.
In the circle, Achilles was 3-1 with an ERA of 0.25 ERA with 58 strikeouts and four walks in 27 innings in the month.
For her overall performance, while leading Tanque Verde into the 3A state playoffs with a 25-5 record, Achilles is the Jet Sports Training Female Athlete of the Month for April.
