Salpointe went 10-1 in the month of January behind leading scorer Sidney Anderson, bolstering its No. 1 spot in the Open Division heading into the last week of the regular season.
Anderson, who is headed to Grand Canyon University on a basketball scholarship, averaged 15.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.8 steals a game in the month of January.
She is only 33 points shy of reaching 1,500 points in her career and is averaging 14.6 points a game overall this season.
With Salpointe without two college-bound seniors because of knee injuries — Taliyah Henderson (North Carolina) and Jordan Watts (Knox) — Anderson has been thrusted into a leadership role this season.
For her performance and leading the defending state-champion Lancers to a 20-4 record, Anderson is the Jet Sports Training Female Athlete of the Month for January.
