Former Catalina Foothills standout Maddie Hairgrove, daughter of Julie BraseHairgrove, was the winning pitcher for Jamestown (N.D.) in the opening round of the NAIA national tournament at Klamath Falls, Ore., on Monday.

Maddie, a freshman, pitched four innings of relief in a 10-6 win over Arizona Christian. She allowed four hits and one run while striking out two without a walk.

In Jamestown’s second game Monday, the younger Hairgrove pitched one inning without a decision in a 4-2 loss against Oregon Tech.

Jamestown next plays in an elimination-bracket game Wednesday.

Julie, the former Catalina Foothills and Arizona standout, was hired by new Wildcat coach Becky Burke as an assistant coach last month. Her previous assistant coaching tenure was with the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury for 18 years (2005 to 2022).

She is a granddaughter of legendary coach Lute Olson.
