DISTRICT 5 SCHEDULE
CDO came back from a 4-0 deficit to beat Oro Valley 12-4 in 9-11 action held at James T. Kriegh Park in Oro Valley. CDO (2-0) advances to third round of the District 5 playoffs where the team will face Thornydale (1-0) Thursday evening at 5 p.m. Thornydale beat Sabino Canyon 19-14 Monday night to advance.
Oro Valley (0-1) moves over to the Elimination Bracket where the team will face Marana (0-1) Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. The loser will face Sabino Canyon (0-2) on Friday in a consolation game. CDO did not have a bye and the host team beat Canyon View 15-8 Monday night. In that game, CDO gave up eight runs early but battled back for the victory and the team went down early against Oro Valley Tuesday night but then secured another comeback victory after giving up four runs in the top of the first.
Al Celaya took the mound for CDO and he gave up four unearned runs in the top of the first with an error extending the inning early on. Gerard D’Angelo and Nolan Ochoa picked up singles in the inning and Diego Duarte had an RBI and Dominic Huerta added two more RBIs on single to right field.
Celaya shut 12 of the next 15 batters he faced before Billy Ramos took over with two outs in the top of the fifth. Ochoa had two hits for Oro Valley. CDO got back in the game slowly with an RBI single from Bradley Charters in the bottom of the first and then the team loaded the bases in the second inning and added two more runs to cut the lead down to 4-3 on an RBI from Luke Baeder. CDO tied the game up 4-4 in the third inning after Sean Carter singled and scored.
CDO scored five runs in the fourth to take control of the game with RBIs from Benjamin Losada, Baeder and Abe Honke and two RBIs from Oliver Shawver to make it 9-4. Charters picked up his third hit in the fifth to pace the team to three more runs and a 12-4 win.
Canyon View (1-1) beat Sabino Canyon 24-10 in the first game of the night to stay alive in the Elimination Bracket and the team will face Flowing Wells (0-1) on Wednesday in another elimination game. As mentioned before, Sabino Canyon is out of contention for a championship.
Caleb Erbst went 3-4 for Canyon View as did Cole Frederico, Brady Barile and Blake Palmour. Nathaniel Siress had two hits for Sabino Canyon as did Troyson Aurelio and Dylan Pottinger. Abraham Dickson got the win for Canyon View.
