Tucson Baseball Team announces signing of three players

The Tucson Baseball Team, the newly relocated ARCO Mexican Pacific League team, announced the signing of three players Monday for their inaugural season this fall and winter at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The players are catcher Alexis Wilson and outfielders Jesus Fabela and Jose Carlos Urena.

Wilson, 28, is a former St. Louis Cardinals minor-leaguer of six years who is 12 years into his professional career. He reached Single-A+ Palm Beach (Fla.) in 2019. He played last winter for Guasave after spending the previous nine seasons with Culiacan in the MPL. He represented Mexico in the Caribbean World Series last winter and also in 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2023-24. He presently plays for the Quintana Roo of the Mexican Baseball League and is batting .207 with two home runs and six RBIs.

Fabela, 30, is also a 12-year professional veteran who has played entirely in Mexico. He played for Culiacan with Wilson in six winters in the MPL. He is playing for Campeche with the MBL this summer. He is batting .293 with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs.

Urena, 30, formerly played in the San Diego Padres minor-league system for five years. He played at the Single-A level most recently in 2016 with Fort Wayne (Ind.). He was with the Obregon of the MPL for six years, including in 2024-25. He is presently playing for Oaxaca of the MBL. He is batting .338 with eight home runs and 19 RBIs.

The Tucson Baseball Team begins its training in September with Opening Day scheduled Oct. 16 against the Naranjeros de Hermosillo at Kino Stadium.
