Western beat Continental Ranch twice Thursday at Crossroads Park to win the District 5 Intermediate championship. Continental Ranch beat Western 5-3 Monday night to send the team to the Elimination Bracket where Western knocked off Marana 3-2 on Wednesday to get back to the championship round. Under the double-elimination format, Western had to win twice on Thursday to win the championship.
Western (3-1) advances to the State Tournament slated to start July 5 in Nogales. Sahuarita Copper Hills (2-1) will represent District 12 and Nogales will represent District 8. Nogales is the host team.
Continental Ranch (2-2) took second place and Marana (0-2) took third in district play. The various District 5 tournaments are now over but the District will host the West Region Junior Girls Softball Tournament once again from July 18-23 at the Arthur Pack Complex.
