The 1A South eight-man football league includes Southern Arizona schools Baboquivari, St. David and Valley Union.
San Manuel will make the shift to the 1A East along with Ray.
Desert Christian started is operations as a 1A independent last season but was elevated to the 2A South II for the 2025 season.
1A scheduling notes:
— Although San Manuel is no longer in the 1A South, the Miners will still play old region rivals Baboquivari and St. David in freedom games.
— St. David, a perennial power under coach Braden Davis, has a challenging schedule with two of its first three games on the road and its last two on the road. The Tigers host defending 1A champion Hayden on Oct. 3. The Lobos eliminated the Tigers in the semifinal round 53-6 at Scottsdale Coronado last season.
— Three of Baboquivari’s four road games are in the region with the lone home game against St. David on Aug. 29. The Warriors play four of their first six games on the road but finish with two freedom games at home against Desert Heights and San Manuel.
— Valley Union and longtime rival San Manuel do not play each other because of the Miners’ departure from the 1A South. The Blue Devils are the opposite of Baboquivari, playing three of their four region games at home. They open the season at region foe St. David, a tough assignment, and follow that with a freedom game at Desert Heights Prep in Glendale. Valley Union then plays four its next five games at home.
