Former CDO and Arizona standout Kiko Romero was only afforded 54 at-bats in 20 games this season before the New York Yankees released him (Single-A+ Hudson Valley photo)

NOTES

— Former Canyon del Oro, Central Arizona College and Arizona standout Kiko Romero is a victim of post-draft roster shakeups, released by the New York Yankees after batting .204 in limited appearances with Single-A+ Hudson Valley (N.Y.). Romero’s OPS (on-base percentage and slugging percentage) with Hudson Valley was .667. He had two home runs and six RBIs. He struck out 16 times. He spent most of the season on the injured list, not activated until July 10. Romero was selected in the seventh round of the 2023 MLB Draft by the Yankees after starting all 59 games at first base for Arizona that spring. He set the Arizona single-season RBI record with 89, breaking a nearly 50-year-old record last set by Ron Hassey (86) in 1974. Romero picked up a pair of All-America second-team nods from the ABCA and Collegiate Baseball and was also named to the All-Pac-12 team and ABCA All-West Region First-Team squad. The release of Romero is even more of a head-scratcher when considering he was elevated to Double-A Somerset (N.Y.) at the end of last season.

— Another former Arizona first baseman, Branden Boissiere, belted his first home run at the Double-A level for Harrisburg (Pa.) on Sunday. It was a walk-off two-run home run that cleared the scoreboard beyond right field at Harrisburg. Boissiere, who was promoted to Double-A last month, is batting .324 with five doubles and nine RBIs in his 20 games at that level.

— Arizona’s former pitchers continue to shine in the minors. RHP Chase Silseth earned his second career save for the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees on Sunday.
