Amphi Media Day includes featuring four student-athletes with top 10 GPA in senior class

Amphitheather High School held its annual fall sports media day at Panther Hall on Monday night, and a highlight included four senior student-athletes who rank in the top 10 of their class in grade-point average.

Talisa Yrigolla, who plays volleyball and softball and is part of the sports medicine program, currently ranks No. 2 in the class with a 4.51 weighted GPA. She plans to attend West Point or the Naval Academy and aspires to be a neuroradiologist.

Joel Garcia is involved with the football team and sports medicine and ranks No. 6 in the class. He wants to go into the medicine field and ultimately become a field medic in the military or an anesthetic nurse.

Brothers Jalen Richmond, of the football team, is No. 5 in the class, and Riley Dennis, also a member of the Panthers’ football program, is No. 10.

Dennis plans to study sociology at the University of Arizona.

In the spring, Richmond was awarded the first recipient of the Andy Morales Humanitarian Award, named after AllSportsTucson.com’s Andy Morales.

Jalen, who also wrestles and is part of the boys volleyball team, has volunteered his time taking photos of various sports, doing ministry work with Young Life Tucson, and serving as a leader for middle schoolers, taking them to camp last year.

He aspires to study photography and psychology at the University of Chicago.

Yrigolla, Garcia and Dennis are also part of the Amphi student council.
