The 8th annual Lute Olson Fantasy Basketball Camp began Thursday night with a Welcome Dinner at the Westward Look Wyndham Grand Resort and the camp runs through Sunday, August 24.  The “Fantasy Camp” will once again, be filled with former University of Arizona players who played for coach Olson beginning in the mid-1980s. The NOVA Home Loans Volpe Team is the equipment sponsor and Tucson Racquet Club is our meal partner.

Two big names in UA Wildcats Basketball history will return to Tucson, AJ Bramlett and Salim Stoudamire, to join other former Cats as camp “coaches”. Those coaches include Bennett Davison, Reggie Geary, Pete Williams, Matt Muehlebach, Jason Gardner, Donnell Harris, Felecity Willis, Mo Tangara, and Andy Brown for the four-day event.

Mike Feder, Partner in the Lute Olson Fantasy Basketball Camp, said “We have exceeded our expectations the last seven years. It was a thrill seeing Sean Elliott and Kenny Lofton interact with our campers last year. The former Wildcats players have been tremendous both on and off the court. Great friendships between the campers and coaches have been formed over the last seven years. A lot of trash taking takes place on social media and on the court”

The coaches watch the campers on Friday morning then will hold a draft to pick their teams. That, too, is very competitive. The campers will compete for three days with a championship game on Sunday morning. Basketball, however, isn’t the highlight of the event. Throughout the four days former players speak on their admiration for their former coach and how he influenced them on and off the court.
