Buena senior Michael Lujan, who has played at the varsity level in all four years of his time at the Sierra Vista school, eclipsed the 200-yard rushing mark for the second time in his career in the Colts’ 52-20 win at Mesa Skyline on Friday.

His 238 yards on 22 rushes is a career-high, topping the 201 yards he tallied on 14 carries last year in a 49-7 victory over Catalina Foothills at home.

Lujan is part of a 2-0 Buena team that hosts ALA-Gilbert North on Friday in one of the top games in the state.

The 5-foot-8 and 190-pound talent is only 57 rushing yards shy of 2,000 in his career, an impressive feat since he was a backup to prolific running back Andres Bonilla the last couple of seasons. He has 1,943 yards on 300 carries with 22 touchdowns in his career.

For his performance in Friday’s win at Skyline, Lujan is the Week 3 APS Digital Print/Frog & Firkin Player of the Week.
