Marana sophomore running back/linebacker Jeffrey Smith III posted a career-best 210 yards on 12 carries with two touchdowns, hauled in a 43-yard reception and finished with seven tackles to lead Marana to a 51-27 win over visiting Casa Grande on Friday.
Smith III, who also started last year at the varsity level as a freshman, is at 1,305 yards on 230 carries in his career. He also has 42 receptions for 433 yards.
A 6-foot, 190-pound physical talent, Smith has a team-best 57 tackles this season after producing 13 last year.
His production on both sides of the ball has been a valuable factor in Marana starting 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the 5A Sonoran.
For his performance against Casa Grande last Friday, Smith is the Week 8 APS Digital Print/Frog & Firkin Player of the Week.
