Southern Arizona & UA talent in pros includes three with Red Sox Single-A+ team

Adonys Guzman, Isaiah Jackson and Mason White of the Single-A+ Greenville (S.C.) Drive of the Boston Red Sox organization

They were rivals in college with Mason White and Adonys Guzman playing with Arizona and Isaiah Jackson with Arizona State, but now they are on the same team with the Boston Red Sox’s Single-A+ affiliate at Greenville (S.C.).

All were drafted last summer, White, a Sapointe alum, the only one by the Red Sox in the fourth round.

Jackson, who hails from Cienega, was selected in the eighth round by the Los Angeles Angels but was sent to the Red Sox in December in a trade for Vaughn Grissom.

Guzman, a fifth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates, was traded in December with Tyler Samaniego and Johan Oviedo to the Red Sox for Jhostynxon Garcia and Jesus Travieso.

The background of White and Jackson goes to youth baseball in Southern Arizona. Now, they are together playing the game they love almost 2,000 miles from Tucson.

Greenville is 15 games into its season in the South Atlantic League.

White is batting .283 with four home runs and eight RBIs, Jackson has three home runs and 18 RBIs while batting .211, and Guzman has a batting average of .275 with a home run and seven RBIs.

AllSportsTucson.com will once again track Southern Arizona and UA talent with a major-league franchise this summer. Presently, 42 such players are under contract with a big-league organization, including 32 former Wildcats.
