Ironwood Ridge upsets top-seeded Crismon behind HRs by Figueroa & Graves

4A SECOND ROUND

No. 9 Ironwood Ridge 9, No. 1 Queen Creek Crismon 5

Ironwood Ridge juniors Angel Figueroa and Clifford Graves each hit a two-run home run to fuel the upset over host Crismon on Monday.

The Nighthawks (23-7-1) rallied for five runs, highlighted by Graves’ blast, in the sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie against the Rattlers (24-4).

Ironwood Ridge took a 4-0 lead after two innings with Figueroa’s two-run home run occurring in the second inning.

Senior Michael Chop (4-2) earned the victory scattering six hits in six innings with four strikeouts and three walks. He also was 2 for 3 with an RBI at the plate.

Junior Jacob Quaron hit an RBI triple and junior Brennan Wilson had a double.

Next: Ironwood Ridge will play a third-round game in the winners’ bracket against No. 4 Scottsdale Saguaro (21-7) at Diablo Stadium in Tempe on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

No. 7 Scottsdale Cactus Shadows 8, No. 2 Salpointe 4

Salpointe (20-9) committed five errors that led to three unearned runs, and Cactus Shadows (19-5) amassed 12 hits in the upset victory on the road.

Junior Zachary Peura, and seniors Colton Raetzman and David Driskill each had two hits for the Lancers. Raetzman had an RBI double and Peura also doubled.

Sophomores Cosimo Milo (solo home run) and Emil Martinez (RBI triple) also produced at the plate.

After Salpointe cut the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the second, Cactus Shadows rallied for three runs in the fifth to pull away.

Next: Salpointe will host No. 6 Sahuarita (22-6-1) in an elimination-bracket game Wednesday at 4 p.m.

No. 4 Scottsdale Saguaro 11, No. 5 Douglas 0, 5 innings

Douglas (20-9) lost by run-rule after the fifth inning on the road against Saguaro (21-7).

The Bulldogs had only two hits against Saguaro junior Jude Dravecky, who pitched the five-inning shutout. Dravecky had three strikeouts and no walks.

Next: Douglas will play at Crismon in an elimination-bracket game Wednesday at 4 p.m.

No. 3 ALA-Gilbert North 4, No. 6 Sahuarita 2

Sahuarita rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh inning, but couldn’t get closer in the game at ALA-Gilbert North (22-6).

Senior Javi Lopez hit a two-run double with two outs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 4-2.

After junior Robbie Garcia singled, advancing Lopez to third base, the game ended on a strikeout.

Garcia finished 2 for 4, the lone Sahuarita batter with a multi-hit performance.

Next: Sahuarita will play at No. 2 Salpointe on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in an elimination-bracket game.

5A SECOND ROUND

No. 1 Canyon del Oro 1, No. 8 Scottsdale Desert Mountain 0

No. 7 Nogales at No. 2 Catalina Foothills, suspended

The game was stopped because of rain in the bottom of the second inning with Catalina Foothills leading 3-0 and the bases loaded. The AIA’s 2026 state baseball playoff rule states that a game suspended shall be resumed at the point of interruption. As of 11:30 p.m. Monday, the time for the rescheduled game was not posted by the AIA.
