Douglas (5-0) advances to the West Region Tournament slated for Bend, Oregon from July 22-30. The Junior League World Series is set for Taylor, Michigan from August 9-16. The team from the West will have a first round bye.

Bracket play for the state tournament was held in Mesa but the championship round was moved to the Tucson area (Manzanita Park) with both squads coming from Southern Arizona. Randolph/San Xavier (District 12) went 4-2 with Douglas (District 8) sending the combined team to the Elimination Bracket after a 7-4 victory on Wednesday. Randolph/San Xavier run-ruled Kingman 11-1 to set up the championship round where the team would have to beat Douglas twice under the double-elimination format. Western (District 5) went 4-2 to take fourth place.

Juan Rojas got the start for Douglas and he went into the sixth inning with his team leading 10-4 with one earned run. Rojas collected eight strikeouts in the win. Emiliano Reyna went 2-4 with an RBI, Luis Avechuco went 3-4 with a double and an RBI, Alonzo Erives went 2-3 and Derek Vasquez went 2-3 with three RBI.

Randolph/San Xavier took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on back-to-back RBIs from RJ Lopez and Jayden Otero and the team led 4-3 heading to the bottom of the fourth, with Rudy Carbajal piking up an RBI, but Douglas responded with three more runs in the bottom half of the inning to go back up 6-4. Douglas led 10-4 after six but Randolph/San Xavier battled back in the seventh.

Jose Ornelas reached on a double with one out, Lopez walked, Otero added another RBI, Jimmy Kane was hit by pitch to load the bases and then Jose Ortiz had an infield RBI to cut the lead down to 10-6 with one out and the bases loaded but the game ended on a strikeout and a pickoff. Reyna ended the game for Douglas. Carbajal, Aiden Cazares and Fabian Bueno saw action on the mound for Randolph/San Xavier.
