Tracking Southern Arizona & Arizona Wildcats baseball players in pros (8/8)

NOTE: This is a compilation of stats involving players from Southern Arizona and the Pima Community College and Arizona Wildcats programs in MLB-sanctioned leagues (MLB and minor leagues). The list does not include players in foreign leagues or independent leagues in the US.

DEVELOPMENTS

Clark Candiotti and Michael Flynn, both in the San Diego Padres organization, joined this week Hunter Alberini (Kansas City Royals) and Julian Tonghini (Washington Nationals) as former Arizona pitchers released by major-league clubs. Candiotti was at the High-A level and Flynn at Triple-A. Clark was 1-2 with a 5.70 ERA in 23 2/3 innings over 17 games. He struck out 25 and walked 12. Flynn was 1-0 with a 6.97 ERA in 20 2/3 innings through 19 games. He had 17 strikeouts and seven walks.

— Arizona 2012 College World Series MVP Rob Refsnyder, an 11-year MLB veteran, was released by the Seattle Mariners. He struggled with multiple injuries this season and was batting only .140 with more than double the amount of strikeouts (37) as hits (16).

— Former Pima Community College and Arizona starting RHP Aiden May was part of a trade that sent him to the Colorado Rockies organization. He remained at the High-A level with the Rockies after pitching at that level with the Miami Marlins. He was 4-3 with a 3.80 ERA with the Marlins’ High-A affiliate. In 14 starts (68 2/3 innings), he struck out 58 and walked 24.

— Former Arizona outfielder Brendan Summerhill was promoted by Tampa Bay to its High-A affiliate at Bowling Green (Ky.) from Single-A Charleston (S.C.). He hit a grand slam in his second game for Bowling Green, which is managed by former Nogales High School standout Rafael Valenzuela. At Charleston, Summerhill was hitting .237 but he had a .699 OPS with four home runs and 30 RBIs. He also had 14 stolen bases.
