Canyon del Oro cornerback Raife Anthony made his commitment today to Aurora (Ill.) University, an NCAA Division III school coached by former NFL receiver Don Beebe.
Beebe was the first NFL player to play in six Super Bowls — four with the Buffalo Bills and two with the Green Bay Packers, one of which the Packers won. He holds numerous records, including Buffalo’s record for most touchdowns in a game (four).
“After talking to Coach Don Beebe and hearing that we will be fighting for a national championship all 4 years, I was hooked,” Anthony said. “It may not be a D1 school but I will be playing at the highest level and against the best competition in Division 3 football. I’m ready to take the challenge and become great.”
In two of CDO’s games this season against Cienega and Ironwood Ridge, Anthony had a blocked field goal, stopped a receiver on a crucial fourth-down play late in the game, returned an interception for a touchdown and recovered a fumble.
“During my recruiting trip, I was always looking for a place that I knew I could call home. When I stepped on campus at Aurora I knew instantly that I could spend the next four years of my life there if not longer,” Anthony said.
Anthony is the 30th Southern Arizona Class of 2021 to make a commit or sign with a college. Here is a list:
