Pima volleyball outside-hitter Bergen Campbell was named a second-team NJCAA Division II All-American on Wednesday.
Campbell becomes the fourth player in program history to be named an All-American and the first since Kaysee Pilgrim in 2014.
She was previously named first-team All-ACCAC after helping lead the Aztecs to the first NJCAA Division II National Tournament appearance in school history. Pima advanced after winning the NJCAA Division II South Central District Tournament.
Campbell led the Aztecs with 128 kills, 416 total attempts and 135.0 points this season. She was second on the team with 122 digs.
After being named an All-American, Campbell credited her teammates and coaches.
“This is such an honor to receive these postseason awards; however I would like to give credit to my teammates and my coaching staff,” Campbell said. “I would like to thank Dan (Bithell) for his support through my growth as a volleyball player and person.”
While Campbell was excited to win the award, she pointed out that her experience winning the district championship to qualify for the national tournament was more important to her.
“These awards are great, but being able to win the district tournament and play in the national tournament with my teammates, is a much greater experience. It was the first time Pima has won the district tournament and I am just proud to be a part of it,” said Campbell.
Campbell currently has five offers from four-year colleges but has yet to determine where she will attend school next year.
