Sugar Skulls look to extend three-game winning streak tomorrow in road game against Northern Arizona

The Tucson Sugar Skulls take a three-game winning streak on the road to Prescott Valley tomorrow when it takes on Northern Arizona.

Tucson is coming off a 74-63 win against the Arizona Rattlers last Saturday night in Tucson Arena, marking the first win over the Rattlers in franchise history.

The victory improved Tucson’s record against the Rattlers to 1-7 since the Sugar Skulls joined the IFL in 2019.

While the 74 points Tucson scored on Saturday and the 137 combined points in the game were both franchise records, Tucson head coach Dixie Wooten remains focused on improving.

“We can get a lot better,” Wooten said in the postgame press conference on Saturday. “We’re 4-3 for a reason, and nobody wins championships at 4-3. So we gotta keep moving, keep getting motivated. Tomorrow, we gotta come in, watch the film, practice, and get ready to go.” 

Tucson defeated Northern Arizona 72-62 on April 23 in Tucson Arena to begin its three-game winning streak. The 72 points Tucson scored and the combined points were both franchise records at the time.

The Wranglers head into tomorrow’s matchup with Tucson riding a two-game winning streak.

Northern Arizona stacked up two consecutive road wins after losing to Tucson on April 23, beating the Bay Area Panthers and the Vegas Knight Hawks.

Tucson kicker Logan Justus was named the IFL Special Teams Player of the Week. 

Justus kicked a crucial 19-yard field goal to put Arizona up 58-40 with 14:52 remaining in the game last Saturday, and he kicked an onside kick on the ensuing kickoff that Tucson recovered.

The Sugar Skulls (4-3) play tomorrow against Northern Arizona (5-2) in Prescott Valley. Kickoff is at 6:05 p.m. You can stream the game on the Indoor Football League YouTube channel.
