It took some extra time to decide the 8U battle between the Scorpions and the Jaguars Saturday morning at Palo Verde High School but things were settled on a short touchdown from Dominic Jones for the 12-6 final.
The teams played to a 6-6 tie in regulation with the Jaguars scoring on the opening possession, capped by a 34-yard dash from Andres Rosthenhausler up the left side. The Scorpions tied things up in the second quarter on a 14-yard run from Jones. The game played even from there with no real scoring threats which sent us into overtime.
Each team had 10 yards to work with in overtime and the Jaguars initial drive stalled at the 5 yard line. The Scorpions set up the winning score on a 1-yard run from Jacob Stewart-Simms, followed by an 8-yard play from Jones. Jones took the ball for the final yard on third down for the victory.
Rosthenhausler finished with 74 yards on 12 carries and Isaiah Lux added 27 yards rushing for the Jaguars. Jones had 78 yards for the Scorpions on 12 carries, Stewart-Simms added 34 and Jones had 22 yards passing with King Reeves and Elijah Gallegos pulling in 11 yards each.
The 8U Scorpions will travel to play the Wildcats at Cholla High School next Saturday at 10 a.m. and the 8U Jaguars will host the 8U Dolphins at the Kino North Stadium at 8 a.m.
