Canyon View advances in Little League action, Intermediate West Region starts Thursday in Nogales

WEDNESDAY, JULY 19

Cactus Foothills 15, Douglas 0 (Douglas eliminated)

CDO’s Drew Godoy had two hits and drove in two runs in CDO’s win in four innings over Prescott Valley and three pitchers combined to allow only three hits — Connor O’Shea, Logan D’Amore and Eli Hammett. O’Shea also scored twice and had an RBI and Hammett had two hits (including a triple) and had two runs. Other standouts for CDO: Theo Honke III had an RBI double and two runs, and Boaz Chop and Oliver Shawyer each drove in a run. CDO next plays Lake Havasu in an elimination-bracket game Thursday at 7:45 p.m.

Canyon View’s Easton Altherr allowed five hits and no earned runs in 5 1/3 innings with six strikeouts and one walk in his team’s win over Lake Havasu. He also hit a double and scored. Canyon View plays Cactus Foothills in the winner’s bracket final Thursday. If it wins, it advances to the championship round starting Tuesday. A loss would force Canyon View to the elimination-bracket final on Saturday. Ethan Burnside hit a two-run home in the win over Lake Havasu. Luke Newman had an RBI double and Colin Tumlinson also drove in a run.

Sunnyside earned its second win the elimination bracket with the victory over Red Mountain. David Blasi and Luis Romero each drove in two runs. Blasi had a double. Emiliano Medina had two hits and an RBI. Giovanni Figueroa, Santiago Zepeda and Ozzie Guadarrama combined to limit Red Mountain to five hits. Sunnyside next plays Litchfield Park on Thursday at 5 p.m. in an elimination-bracket game.

Randolph 4, Nogales 1 (Nogales eliminated)

Andrew Hendrick scattered five hits in 5 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts and five walks in Randolph’s win over Nogales. Marlon Sanchez earned the save allowing one hit in 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts and a walk. Cesar Hernandez’s RBI single in the sixth put Randolph ahead 2-1. Milo Vasquez’s walk with the bases loaded added on to the lead. Christian Salazar, who walked in the seventh, later scored on an error for the game’s final run. Randolph next plays an elimination-bracket game Friday against an opponent to be determined.
