Cameron Hackworth’s 467 passing yards in Friday’s 46-31 win over River Valley in the first round of the 3A playoffs puts him within range of Rhett Rodriguez’s Southern Arizona career passing record.
Rodriguez, son of former Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez, passed for 8.694 yards from 2013-16 with Catalina Foothills.
Hackworth’s total Friday puts him at 8,254, which is 440 yards shy of Rhett Rodriguez’s record.
The fourth-seeded Sabercats (8-3) will host No. 12 Round Valley (6-4) on Thursday at 7 p.m. in a quarterfinal game.
Hackworth completed 27 of 36 pass attempts in the win over River Valley on Friday. He threw six touchdown passes, increasing his career total to 93, a Southern Arizona record. The mark ranks 20th in state history.
