Catalina Foothills standout Madison Hairgrove to play softball for Jamestown
Catalina Foothills standout pitcher Madison Hairgrove announced her commitment to play softball for the University of Jamestown. The senior is the great granddaughter of Lute Olson and the daughter of former Catalina Foothills and University of Arizona basketball standout Julie Brase Hairgrove and former Arizona football player Mike Hairgrove.
“I am beyond excited to announce that I have committed to further my academic and athletic career at the University of Jamestown,” Hairgrove announced on social media. “I would like to thank my family and coaches for supporting me through this journey!”
The Jimmies are located in Jamestown, North Dakota.
Former Salpointe jumper Paris Mikinski is part of a rich heritage
Former Salpointe jumper and current Arizona standout Paris Mikinski rooms with fellow Wildcat Oli Clark. Clark is a pole vaulter from Georgia and she is the daughter of former 2000 Olympian Melissa Mueller. Mueller set two national records in the pole vault and she won the 2003 Pan American games.
Mikinski is the daughter of Gwen Mikinski, a two-time national champion and World Record Holder in the pentathlon high jump and an American Record Holder in the heptathlon high jump. Mueller and Mikinski were both Nike Athletes.
Former Salpointe standout Colin Dreis helped Montana win the Big Sky Championship
Former Salpointe standout lineman Colin Dreis was part of Montana’s 37-7 win over Montana State on Saturday to win the Big Sky Championship to earn a No. 2 seed and a first-round bye before playing the winner of Lafayette (9-2) and Delaware (8-3). Lafayette and Delaware will play this Saturday to start the NCAA D-I FCS Bracket play. No. 6 Montana (10-1) will host on Dec. 2.
Former Ironwood Ridge soccer standout Shana Brown part of GPAC Tournament Championship
Former Ironwood Ridge defender Shana Brown was part of the Midland team that won the GPAC Tournament in Fremont, Nebraska on Nov. 10 in a 2-overtime thriller, 4-3 over Dordt (Iowa). The team made it to the NAIA first round.
Brown was the 2020 AllSportsTucson Southern Arizona Student Athlete of the Year.
Former Cienega volleyball standout Ashley Robinson part of CCAA Tournament Championship
Former Cienega hitter Ashley Robinson was part of the Cal State San Bernardino squad that won the CCAA Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 18. The top-seeded Coyotes defeated No. 2 seed Cal State LA 25-19, 18-25, 25-22 and 26-24. Robinson had eight kills in the final.
Cal State San Bernardino (24-4) earned the No. 2 seed in the West and the program will host the NCAA D-II West Region bracket, starting against No. 5 Seattle Pacific (22-4) on Nov. 30.
Former Ironwood Ridge standout Rumur Rouille part of NEC Tournament Championship
Former Ironwood Ridge volleyball standout Rumur Rouille helped the No. 4 seed Long Island squad to a 25-20, 21-25, 25-14, 25-13 victory over No. 1 seed Sacred Heart on Saturday. Rouille had four kills and five blocks in the final. The NCAA will release the D-I bracket on Sunday.
Rouille was the 2021 AllSportsTucson Southern Arizona Student Athlete of the Year.
Former Pusch Ridge standout Kannon Jewell part of D-III Randolph-Macon playoff run
Former Pusch Ridge standout Kannon Jewell plays tight end for No. 8 Randolph-Macon (11-0) and the Yellow Jackets are taking on No. 19 Ithica College (9-2) in the second round of the NCAA D-III playoffs on Saturday in Virginia.
Former Pusch Ridge football standout Bryce Jewell part of RMAC Championship
Former Pusch Ridge standout Bryce Jewell was part of the Colorado School of Mines RMAC championship. The NCAA D-II power is 11-0 and the program will take on No. 16 Augustana (11-1) on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
