Willcox senior athlete Landon Ward led the Cowboys to a 50-8 win over visiting Palo Verde on Friday, rushing for 252 yards on only seven carries with four touchdowns in the 2A San Pedro Game.
The 5-foot-11 and 140-pound standout also had three tackles and broke up four passes as a defensive back.
For his performance, which helped Willcox improve to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the region, Ward is the Week 9 APS Digital Print/Frog & Firkin Player of the Week.
Ward and Willcox coach Jeston Lotts will each receive a banner honoring the player of the week selection.
Ward’s performance on Friday comes off the heels of his dominating showing in a 41-20 win at Tanque Verde two weeks ago. In that game, Ward had 179 yards rushing on 14 carries with four touchdowns. He also returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.
Ward is a student-athlete aided in the recruiting process by Rodney Cox of Gametime Recruiting and Consulting.
APS Digital Print is owned by relatives and close family friends of former Salpointe standout Bijan Robinson, now with the Atlanta Falcons.
