Brayden Burries, a scoring guard from Riverside (Calif.) Roosevelt who is one of the top-rated Class of 2025 prospects in the country, is Arizona’s second five-star recruit to commit to coach Tommy Lloyd’s program within the last two weeks, following the pledge by Gilbert Perry forward Koa Peat.
Burries made his commitment known Wednesday morning on ESPN’s SportsCenter after Peat utilized another national ESPN show — the Pat McAfee Show — to announce his college plans.

Burries is rated No. 11 in ESPN’s Top 100 list while Peat is No. 9. Only Arkansas coach John Calipari has two players rated higher — No. 5 point guard Darius Acuff and No. 10 point guard Maleek Thomas.
“Arizona was the best fit for me and my family,” Burries told ESPN. “Coach Lloyd is a great guy. They have been recruiting me for a while. He allows his players to play both up and down, but they also execute within a structured framework. Everyone is held accountable. Their style of play is smart and aggressive.”
Burries and Peat — both MaxPreps All-American First-Team selections — 2are part of the Class of 2025 recruiting class along with small forwards Dwayne Aristode of Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Bryce James (LeBron’s son) of Beverly Hills (Calif.) Sierra Canyon.
Burries chose the Wildcats over USC, Alabama, Oregon and Tennessee. He averaged 29.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.5 steals a game this season for Roosevelt, which won the CIF Open Division title last month.
Here are some reactions nationally of Burries committing to Arizona.
ESPN’s Paul Biancardi and Jeff Borzello:
“Burries is considered one of the most gifted scoring guards in the class of 2025. He boasts an impressive shooting percentage (56 percent) thanks to his keen understanding of shot quality. Recently, he has made significant strides in his playmaking abilities and has combined his vision with an improved ability to read defenses. He has proven to be a strong natural scorer who excels from midrange, is capable from the 3-point line, and finishes well at the rim due to his size and sturdy frame. His mature game should translate well as a freshman.”

“Burries is an ideal fit for the Wildcats with his combination of size and skill at the lead guard spot. He has the ability to rebound at a high level, and he has a knack for scoring at all three levels. The five-star is capable of being a distributor as well and will fit in well with the style of play that Lloyd is looking for.”
Sports Illustrated’s Ben Sherman:
“Burries will step in for Caleb Love at the shooting guard position next season. With Jaden Bradley expected back as the point guard, Arizona should have one of the best backcourts in the Big 12.”
“He reached the 40-point mark five times and broke the 50 mark once, but arguably his most impressive showing was a 44-point outburst in the California Open Division state championship.”
247Sports.com director of scouting Adam Finkelstein:
“Burries is a big-bodied scoring guard and three-level threat. A bit older for his grade, he turned 19 in September, and is physically mature with an already powerful frame to complement his versatile attack. … He can elongate his strides at the end of his drives, has a terrific left hand as both a driver and a finisher, good body control, and can rise-up to hammer big dunks on unsuspecting defenders, even if he worked his way to the rim more gradually. … Burries also has a very formidable mid-range game. He can dance with his handle to create space for his pull-up, and can also go to a step-back with range out beyond the arc. … He is also an excellent rebounding guard. Defensively, he is fully engaged, physical, and competitive, if not ultra-quick. … Overall, Burries is a strong and physical scoring guard, who can get his buckets in a variety of ways, but also not one dimensional because of his ability to take reps at the point guard spot, his contributions on the defensive end, the glass, and with the competitiveness of his overall approach.”
