NOTES
— The Detroit Tigers signed former Arizona infielder Kevin Newman — an eight-year MLB veteran — to a minor-league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Toledo, where he was in the lineup Saturday as the shortstop for the Mud Hens. He went 2 for 5 with two runs, a double, and an RBI. It was the first game since Newman was released Aug. 2 by the Los Angeles Angels. The 32-year-old hit .202 with two home runs, one walk and 23 strikeouts over 56 games for the Angels, registering a .481 OPS. He received playing time at third base, shortstop, second base and first base. In his MLB career, Newman has played for the Pittsburgh Pirates (2018-22), Cincinnati Reds (2023), Arizona Diamondbacks (2024) and Angels (2025). He is a career .259 hitter with a .656 OPS across 672 games, spanning 2,343 plate appearances. He had the best season of his career in 2019 with the Pirates, when he hit .308 with 12 home runs, 16 steals and an .800 OPS. Newman will play at the Triple-A level for the fourth straight season with four different MLB clubs — Pirates in 2022, Reds in 2023, Diamondbacks last season and now the Tigers.
— Former Arizona 1B/3B Bobby Dalbec hit his sixth home run in 12 games (46 plate appearances) with Triple-A Omaha of the Kansas City Royals organization on Saturday night. That gives him 22 home runs at the Triple-A level this season (also 12 with Nashville and four with Charlotte). He now has 206 career home runs, 87 in Triple-A.
