Pima women’s hoops places third in SC4 Thumbcoast Tip-Off Tournament

The No. 4 Pima Community College women’s basketball team closed the SC4 Thumbcoast Tip-Off Tournament winning the third-place game Saturday at Port Huron, Mich.

The Aztecs defeated SUNY Niagara 91-54, finishing 2-1 in the tournament.

Pima (3-2) took a double-digit lead at 21-10 after the first quarter. After leading 43-25 at halftime, the Aztecs outscored the Thunderwolves 31-9 in the third quarter and led by as many as 42 points in the game. Pima held the lead the whole game.

Sophomore Ahdiayh Chee had a game-high 27 points on 9-for-13 shooting, 4 for 8 from beyond the arc and 5 for 5 at the free-throw line.

The Pima bench scored 58 points.

Sophomore Lucy Land was another contributor off the bench as she scored 14 points on 7-for-9 shooting to go with four rebounds.

Sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds as she went 5 for 8 from the field.

Freshman Reigne Waugh finished with eight points and 11 rebounds while fellow freshmen Isabella Ivy and Teagan Martin each posted seven points. Freshman Lucy Fisher grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Aztecs shot 47.4 percent from the field (37 for 78) and were 78.6 percent from the free-throw line (11 for 14).

Pima held SUNY Niagara to 23.2 percent shooting (16 for 69). The Aztecs out-rebounded the Thunderwolves 55-29 and outscored them in the paint 50-22.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Wednesday when they take on Yavapai College in a non-conference game.

Tip-off is at 6:00 p.m.
