Mica Mountain is the first repeat champion among big schools from Southern Arizona since Canyon del Oro won consecutive Class AA titles in 1976 and 1977.
The Thunderbolts (12-2) defeated previously unbeaten Phoenix Arcadia 42-17 on Friday night in the 4A championship game at Mountain America Stadium at Tempe.
The victory also earned Jay Campos his first state title after being a runner-up four times at Sabino.

He took over for legendary coach Pat Nugent, who won his first state title last year after leading the Thunderbolts to a 14-0 record in the school’s fourth full year of varsity football.
The fifth year was just as sweet.
