No. 5 Pima routs Chandler-Gilbert to improve to 12-3

Pima women’s basketball team opened 2026 with a 73-42 victory on Saturday against Chandler-Gilbert at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

The No. 5 Aztecs (12-3, 4-1 in ACCAC) put together a double-digit run in the first quarter and maintained their advantage,

Chandler-Gilbert (8-6, 1-3) scored the first points of the game but the Aztecs went on a 15-2 run and held the Coyotes scoreless for almost six minutes, and without a field goal for eight minutes as Pima went up 18-6 after the first quarter.

The Coyotes cut the lead to 23-13 in the second quarter but the Aztecs scored eight straight and used a 10-2 run to go up 33-15 at halftime.

The Aztecs took their biggest lead in the fourth quarter after freshman Lucy Fisher’s basket made it 68-34 with 3:51 left.

Sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller scored a game-high 17 points and completed the double-double by adding 13 rebounds. She also had two blocks.

Fisher had adouble-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds to go with two assists and two steals.

Sophomore Melicia Nelson was also a starter in double figures as she added 10 points after going 4 for 5 from the field. She posted seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

The bench production of sophomore Cassie Coolidge (Sahuaro) and Gabriella Sanchez (Tucson) provided a spark in the second half.

Coolidge scored all 10 of her points in the second half as she went 3 for 3 from the field and 2 for 2 from beyond the arc. Sanchez also scored 10 points as she was 3 for 5 from the field, adding five rebounds and one block.

The Aztecs shot 40.7 percent from the field (24 of 59). They outrebounded the Coyotes 53-30.

Pima will be back at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Wednesday when they host rival Mesa at 5:30 p.m.
