The Buena Colts put on a commanding performance Friday night, improving to 11-2 with a resounding 97-45 victory over the Pueblo Warriors in a game that showcased their relentless style of play.
From the opening tip, the Colts set an aggressive tempo that the Warriors simply couldn’t match. Buena’s balanced offensive attack was on full display, with six players reaching double figures in a masterclass of team basketball.
Steve Wambach led the charge with 16 points, while Thomas Welker added 15 in the rout. Jeremy Booker and Gabriel Padilla each contributed 12 points, with Joseph Thomas chipping in 11 and Eli Avechuco rounding out the double-digit scorers with 10.
What made the Colts’ performance particularly impressive was their unwavering intensity throughout all four quarters. Rather than settling into cruise control with a comfortable lead, Buena maintained its fierce hustle and up-tempo style, constantly rotating fresh legs onto the floor to keep the pressure relentless.
The Warriors had no answer for the waves of Colts coming at them, as Buena’s depth proved to be a decisive advantage.
The Warriors struggled to find offensive rhythm against Buena’s suffocating defense, though Amare Rodriguez fought valiantly with a team-high 19 points in the losing effort.
The Colts’ refusal to ease off the accelerator sent a clear message: this is a team with a state title aspirations, and they’re not taking any opponent lightly. With their record now standing at 11-2, Buena will look to carry this momentum into the MLK Classic, in which the Colts are scheduled to face the Cienega Bobcats on Monday at 7:30 pm. at McKale Center.
