No. 5 Pima scores season low but goes to 20-0 after win at Chandler-Gilbert

The No. 5 Pima Community College men’s basketball team found itself in an unusual low-scoring affair on Wednesday in its 69-54 win at Chandler-Gilbert on Wednesday night.

The Aztecs (20-0, 9-0 in ACCAC) scored a season-low point total but still achieved their 21st straight win dating to last season’s third-place in the NJCAA Division II national tournament.

Pima leads all NJCAA Division II teams in the nation averaging 117.6 points a game. The next team, Milwaukee Area Technical College, is at 104.2 points a game.

·Up 37-31, the Aztecs created some breathing room with a 12-1 run that lasted 6:30 to go up 49-32 with 11:26 left.

They maintained the double-digit advantage, but the Coyotes (10-10, 2-7) chipped away to cut it to 62-49 with 4:51 left.

The Aztecs halted their momentum with a 7-0 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 69-49 with 2:00 left.

Pima used a 7-0 run in the first half to go up 26-17 as freshman Will Feagles capped the run with his second 3-pointer of the game to make it 26-17.

Feagles had eight points in the half while freshman Isaiah Hill (formerly of Pueblo and Premier Prep Academy) posted 11 points as Pima led 32-27 at the break.

Hill finished with a team-high 20 points to go with six steals and three rebounds.

Feagles went 5 for 7 from beyond the arc and finished with 19 points.

Sophomore Mason Hunt added nine points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks while fellow sophomore Isaac Johnson posted six points, six rebounds and two blocks.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Saturday when they host South Mountain at 4:00 p.m.
