
The Pima Community College baseball team opened the 2026 season on Friday with a doubleheader sweep against the College of Southern Idaho at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field.
The No. 21 Aztecs (2-0) were led by sophomore Jackson Glueck, who went 3 for 5 with three RBIs and three runs in the two games.
Glueck, along with freshmen Cooper Kruk (Catalina Foothills) and Juan Hernandez (Tucson), all homered in the second game. Sophomore Brady Hall and freshman Matt Delaney picked up the wins.
Pima coach Ken Jacome said on the Eye on the Ball radio show on 1450-AM this week that Kruk, a catcher/third baseman, will be a likely MLB draft choice in June.
Game 1: (21) Pima 5, College of Southern Idaho 2
The Aztecs took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth.
Glueck and sophomore Matt MacDonald drew back-to-back walks to start the fourth. With one out, freshman Damian Lorta (Desert View) hit an RBI single to bring in Glueck to make it 2-1.
Sophomore Mike Jones (Canyon del Oro) followed with a sacrifice-fly RBI to plate MacDonald.
Sophomore Max Leyva (Tucson) reached base on an error and pinch runner Owen Wade scored to put Pima ahead 4-1.
Glueck hit an RBI double in the fifth inning to bring in sophomore Leon Cereceres, after he hit a lead-off single, stole second base and reach third on a groundout.
Freshman Aciel Guillen (Salpointe Catholic) scored on a passed ball to put Pima on the board in the first inning.
Glueck went 1 for 2 with an RBI, a run and a walk. MacDonald drew three walks and scored a run. Lorta was 1 for 2 with an RBI and Cereceres finished 1 for 4 with a run.
Hall picked up the win in relief as he pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up one unearned run on three hits with one strikeout and two walks on 54 pitches.
Game 2: (21) Pima 6, College of Southern Idaho 0
The pitching duo of Delaney and sophomore Jose Grijalva (Sunnyside) shut out the Golden Eagles in the second game.
Delaney got the win after he pitched three innings of no-hit ball with two strikeouts on 32 pitches.
Grijalva was credited with the save after he pitched the final four innings, giving up two hits with three strikeouts on 46 pitches.
The Pima offense took over in the first three innings. Cereceres drew a lead-off walk in the first inning and was driven in by Glueck’s two-run homer.
Hernandez hit a lead-off home run in the second inning to make it 3-0.
Kruk hit a three-run home run in the third, scoring Guillen and Glueck.
Glueck finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs. Kruk went 1 for 3 with three RBIs and a run while Hernandez was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run. Cereceres was 1 for 2 with a run and two walks.
The Aztecs will play a single game on Saturday against the College of Southern Idaho at noon.
