
The No. 15 Arizona Wildcats swept the third day of the Bear Down Fiesta on Saturday with a pair of run-rule wins over Coastal Carolina and Utah Valley at Hillenbrand Stadium.
Game 1 | No. 15 Arizona 9, Coastal Carolina 1 (5 inn.)
Arizona (6-3) opened the day with a 9-1 five-inning win over Coastal Carolina scoring nine runs on five hits.
UConn transfer Grace Jenkins went 2 for 3 with a grand slam.
The Wildcats plated five in the first inning to take the lead. Regan Shockey scored the first run for Arizona on a wild pitch and Jenkins hit her grand slam to round out the scoring for the first inning.
Arizona added four runs in the second to take a 9-0 lead. Kiki Escobar came home on an RBI fielder’s choice and Sydney Stewart hit a three-run home run to give the Cats the 9-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Coastal hit a solo home run but Arizona was able to make the final two outs to secure the win.
Jenae Berry earned her first win of the season after pitching four innings and keeping Coastal scoreless on three hits. Sarah Wright entered in the fifth and allowed one run on one hit.
Game 2 | No. 15 Arizona 15, Utah Valley 0 (5 inn.)
The Wildcats hit four home runs in the second game of the day to run-rule Utah Valley in five innings.
Kez Lucas led the team with two home runs while Emma Kavanagh and Stewart had three RBIs each. Kavanagh hit a three-run home run and Salpointe graduate Anyssa Wild had a two-run homer.
Arizona took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI groundout from Stewart. In the second inning, the Wildcats exploded for five runs to take a 6-0 lead. Lucas opened the inning with a solo home run and Ole Miss transfer Addison Duke drove in the second run with an RBI single. Sereniti Trice had a two-run double to drive in a pair and Trice scored on a squeeze bunt to score the fifth run of the inning.
Lucas hit her second home run of the game to lead off the third inning and give Arizona a 7-0 lead.
The Wildcats had eight runs in the fourth to take a 15-0 lead. A two-run triple from Stewart and an RBI single from Jenkins plated the first three runs of the inning. Kavanagh added three on a home run and Wild hit a two-run home run.
Freshman Rylie Holder made her debut in the circle to pick up the win, keeping Utah Valley scoreless on four hits with two strikeouts.
Arizona will take on Creighton to close out the Bear Down Fiesta on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
