
No. 14 Arizona run-ruled Long Beach State and Minnesota in its doubleheader on Friday during the Hillenbrand Invitational at Hillenbrand Stadium.
Arizona openedwith a five-inning 8-0 win over Long Beach State and followed with an 11-2 win in five innings over Minnesota.
Game 1 | No. 14 Arizona 8, LBSU 0 (5 inn.)
The Wildcats (15-5) scored eight runs on nine hits and hit three home runs in the game.
Emma Kavanagh and Regan Shockey had two hits each while Tayler Biehl, Grace Jenkins, and Sydney Stewart recorded two RBIs each.
The Wildcats took a 6-0 lead in the first inning. Stewart brought in the first pair of runs with a two-run double. Jenkins and Kez Lucas both hit two-run home runs to add to Arizona’s lead.
In the second inning, Arizona plated two runs on a two-run homer from Biehl to take an 8-0 lead.
Rylie Holder picked up the win in the first game to improve to 5-1. She pitched the first four innings and held the Long Beach State scoreless on three hits.
Jenae Berry entered the circle in the fifth and gave up one hit but did not allow Long Beach State to score.
Game 2 | No. 14 Arizona 11, Minnesota 2 (5 inn.)
Arizona hit three home runs for the second straight game and Sereniti Trice led the Wildcats with three hits.
Arizona scored four runs in the first inning. Stewart was responsible for driving in the first two runs with a single up the middle and Kiki Escobar had a two-run single to give the Wildcats an early 4-0 lead.
Stewart hit a two-run home run in the second inning to put the Wildcats up 6-0.
In the third inning, Arizona plated four runs to extend the lead to 10-0.
Jenna Sniffen hit a two-run home run – her second homer of the season – to open scoring in the inning. Trice and Biehl had back-to-back RBI singles to add two more runs for Arizona.
Minnesota scored two runs in the top of the fourth on an RBI double and a sacrifice fly.
Kavanagh gave Arizona the 11-2 lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.
In the circle, Jalen Adams earned the win to improve to 8-3 on the season. She allowed three hits and kept Minnesota scoreless.
Arizona will face Howard on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. on the third day of the Hillenbrand Invitational.
