No. 16 Arizona evens series at No. 21 Oklahoma State with run-rule victory in five innings

Playing on ESPN’s parent networks — ESPN and ESPN2 — the last two weekends has brought out the best in No. 16 Arizona with two victories against ranked teams on the road.

Arizona beat No. 18 LSU 4-2 last week on ESPN and defeated No. 21 Oklahoma State 9-1 in five innings on ESPN2.

The Wildcats (31-12, 12-5 Big 12) have the opportunity to go 5-4 in the their nine-game road swing against Iowa State, LSU and Oklahoma State with a victory Sunday at 9 a.m., Tucson time, on ESPN+.

The victory over the Cowgirls on Saturday evened the three-game series after Arizona came up short, 8-7 in 10 innings, in Friday’s opening game.

The Wildcats plated nine runs on 12 hits in Saturday’s victory.

Regan Shockey went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs.

Tayler Biehl hit a pair of doubles and drove in two runs.

Arizona scored four runs in the first inning. Shockey scored the first run after taking advantage of a throwing error. Tele Jennings hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the second run and Biehl doubled to bring in another run. Grace Jenkins brought in Arizona’s fourth run with an RBI single.

In the second inning, the Wildcats extended the lead to 7-0.

Shockey beat the defensive shift with a double to right field to bring in the first run and Sydney Stewart had an RBI single to give Arizona a 6-0 lead.

Biehl hit her second double of the game to bring in Stewart.

Arizona scored two more times in the top of the third.

Shockey recorded her third hit of the game — a single to right field — to bring in the first run of the inning.

Sereniti Trice drove in the second run of the inning with an RBI single to increase the lead to 9-0.

Oklahoma State scored its run in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI single to make it a 9-1 game.

Jalen Adams retired the final four batters to limit the Cowgirls to just one run. She earned the win to improve to 18-6.

She pitched a complete-game three-hitter and struck out two and walked two.

Arizona will return to Hillenbrand Stadium for its last regular season series at home, starting Friday at 6 p.m. against Houston.
