Former Arizona catcher Austin Wells was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday by the New York Yankees after experiencing cervical headaches that have impacted his performance. Late Friday night, Wells reportedly informed the Yankees’ training staff about the pressure in the top of his head and headaches he has been dealing. “I think it just needs a couple days, let the brain catch up a little bit and get back to work,” Wells told reporters Sunday after the Yankees’ 6-1 win over the Red Sox in The Bronx. Wells is set to undergo an MRI on Monday to try to rule out anything more serious, particularly in his neck. He tested negative for a concussion Saturday. “In my mind, it’s just the cumulative buildup over the last couple weeks, month, whatever it is,” he said. “When you’re in it every day, you don’t really realize, but being out of it today, I felt better today already.” Wells is struggling at the plate, batting .166 with only seven RBIs through 47 games and 145 at-bats. He has 45 strikeouts and 24 hits.
