The Foothill Area Junior Softball All-Stars remain perfect at 14-0 this summer by beating Thornydale 12-3 Tuesday night at the Arthur Pack Complex to win the Junior West Regional for the second year in a row. Thornydale, the host team, finishes the championship season with a 7-2 record that includes the District Tournament, with both losses coming to the Northern California state championship program.
Foothill Area, located east of Redding, went perfect through District, Section, State and Region play for the second year in a row. The team returns three players from last year’s World Series run including Rylee Haynes, Hailey Mann and Olivia Rouland. The team had a difficult time in Kirkland, Washington last year but the team knows what to expect this season.
The first game will be against Asia-Pacific (Philippines) on Sunday, August 2 at 10 a.m. The team will face the East Region (Pennsylvania) on August 3, Canada (Quebec) on August 4 and the Southwest Region (Texas) on August 5. Bracket play starts on August 6. All games will be on ESPN+.
In the championship final, Mann and Kylie Kenyon hit home runs with Kenyon also adding a double with three RBIs. Cate Brard went 2-4 with a double, Rouland went 3-3 with a double, Haynes went 3-3 with a double, Bri Songer went 3-4, Val Shaw went 2-3 with two RBIs and Josie Cogle added an RBI. Mann had two RBIs and she also collected three strikeouts from the circle and Kenyon picked up five more strikeouts when she took the circle. Kenyon finished the tournament with three home runs and 11 RBIs and Mann finished with 27 strikeouts.
For Thornydale, Giselle Hugues, Kenzie Scott and Paisley Perkins had doubles and Scott and Carly Jenson collected RBIs. Audree Hoffman threw two strikeouts and Aubrey Neighbors had eight. Scott finished with five home runs and 16 RBIs and Neighbors collected 23 strikeouts from the circle.
