No. 4 Ironwood Ridge took the top-seeded Chaparral team to the PK round in the 5A state semifinals. Chaparral went on to win the match but the Nighthawks forced the issue and finished 14-4-3 on the year with a Southern Region championship and a second-straight semifinal finish.
Longtime Ironwood Ridge coach Sean Watkins has 170 wins and a runner-up finish in 2011.
