Tucson Rattlers’ teams split games in first day of AAU tourney in Chicago

The Tucson Rattlers’ 15U and 17U teams split their games Monday in the first day of the Nike Tournament of Champions AAU event in Chicago.

They each play two games today to determine with final game they will be placed in tomorrow.

The Black team consisting of the 17U group was led by guards Natalie Bartle (16 points) and Kiya Dorroh (14) in the opening game Monday, a 58-42 win over the Illinois Rockets.

Bartle played at Ironwood Ridge High School the first three years of her career. She is transferring to a school in Michigan this season for her senior year. Northern Michigan offered her a scholarship yesterday.

Dorroh is an incoming freshman standout at Tanque Verde High School.

The 17U team came up short in the second game 59-55 against the Boston Mavericks after trailing by as many as 30 points in the second quarter. They had three chances to tie the game with under a minute remaining but could not convert.

Bartle led the Rattlers with 32 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field, including 5-of-11 from 3-point range.
