Salpointe will host the 6th Annual Sam Portillo Wrestling Clinic this Saturday, Sept. 16. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and it is free with the clinic scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
Portillo resigned his head coaching position at Amphitheater and is now serving as an assistant coach for the Lancers under David Jimenez.
“I want to provide an opportunity for kids in the Tucson area to get a chance to meet and learn from world-class athletes,” Portillo said. “I know money gets tight for everyone so I try to hold a free wrestling clinic every year so that all kids get an opportunity to experience a world-class wrestling clinic at no cost and bring a smile to their faces.”
ASU head coach Zeke Jones will be the head clinician and he will be joined by Zahid Valencia and Anthony Valencia. ASU Wrestling gear will be available for purchase at the clinic.
