Arizona basketball coach Sean Miller, a week after his program has been dealing with a probe by the FBI, has spoken on the issue.
In a statement released by the school, Miller said he knew nothing of his assistant coach’s actions while recruiting top-notch recruits.

“I was devastated to learn last week of the allegations made against Emanuel Richardson,” Miller said in the statement. “I have expressed to both Dr. Robbins and our Athletic Director Dave Heeke that I fully support the University’s efforts to fully investigate these allegations. As the head basketball coach at the University of Arizona, I recognize my responsibility is not only to establish a culture of success on the basketball court and in the classroom, but as important, to promote and reinforce a culture of compliance. To the best of my ability, I have worked to demonstrate this over the past 8 years and will continue to do so as we move forward.”
Presumably, Miller has continued to work with his team in the last few days. The first day of practice started on Sunday. He had cancelled a luncheon with Tucson Rotarians this week and last week his advertising campaign with Hughes Federal Credit union was stopped pending additional news of UA’s findings on UA’s investigation into the matter.
Last week, Arizona assistant Book Richardson was arrested on federal bribe and fraud charges. He was one of 10 implicated in a wide-ranging investigation into recruiting violations involving Adidas. Richardson faces charges that could lead to 60 years in jail time and/or $1.5 million in fines if convicted. If proven, Arizona could very likely face NCAA penalties.
