The Falcons improved to 8-0 in the 10U Division by defeating the previously undefeated Raiders 25-12 on Saturday afternoon at Cholla High School. The Raiders are tied with the Redskins at 7-1 in the division and the Southwest Rams are in fourth place at 6-2.

The Falcons got on the scoreboard first thanks to a 4-yard run from Dajon Hinton. The extra point attempt failed and the Raiders tied things up one play later on a 36-yard pass from Emilio Aranda to Melvin Kahn.

The game didn’t remain tied up for long thanks to a 65-yard sprint by Xavier Johnson on the Falcon’s next possession to give his team a 12-6 lead heading into the second quarter.

Hinton made it 18-6 later in the quarter on a 46-yard run and Vincent Otero hit Johnson for the conversion to make it 19-6 at the half.

Hinton finished with 157 yards rushing and he picked up 52 yards of that on the first play of the third quarter to increase the Falcon lead to 25-6. The Raiders got things going again and the team marched down the field to cut the lead down to 25-12 with Tyriq Smith busting in from 2-yards out.

The Raiders defense started to come together and it looked like the offense was going to make another move but the team gave the ball back on downs at the Falcon’s 3-yard line.

Hinton got his 157 yards rushing and Johnson added 101 for the Falcons. Hinton also had 20 yards passing with Sebastian Salazar pulling down all 20 of those. Shamar Berryhill came up with fumble recovery to stop the Raider’s final drive.

For the Raiders, Aranda finished with 52 yards passing and Julian Ortiz had 11 yards through the air. Kahn had 39 yards receiving and Richard Santacruz had 24. Khan also had 58 yards rushing in the game.
