Pueblo senior guard Summer Fox will leave the Warriors’ program after this season as one of the best defensive players this state has seen and as a member of Black Hills State, an NCAA Division II program in Spearfish, South Dakota.
Fox, a guard and wing player, announced her verbal commitment yesterday to further her education at Black Hills State and play for the Yellow Jackets.

A varsity member throughout her career first at Sabino (as a freshman) and Pueblo the last two years, Fox has averaged a phenomenal 4.3 steals per game in her career. She averaged 5.2 steals for the Warriors last year in addition to 14.3 points a game.
She was a key member of the successful basketball program Tucson Rattlers 17U during the summer, averaging 3.7 steals per game.
“I guess I don’t want to play defense for a long time because it makes the game boring,” Fox told me during the summer. “I just try to get the ball so we can have more possessions to score and make the tempo go faster.”
Summer Fox, a senior at Pueblo, is one of the top defensive players in the history of girls basketball in the state.
Chris Klassen, the former Tucson Rattlers coach who is now an assistant at Knox College, a Division III school in Galesburg, Ill., called Fox “a one-man press.”
“I put her on a point guard and she just wears that person down to where they don’t want to bring the ball up and they defer to somebody else,” said Klassen, a former Pima women’s hoops assistant who still operates the Tucson Rattlers. “Now, we can create turnovers from somebody who does not handle the ball and we can break them down.”
