Arizona Wildcats coach Rich Rodriguez did not sign a player from Tucson in his first two classes — 2012 and 2013 — but the list in the last two years will potentially continue to grow in February.

Tucson High School safety Demetrius Flannigan committed to Arizona today, the 15th commitment to date for the Class of 2015 that is scheduled to sign in February. Flannigan is the third player from Tucson to become affiliated with Rodriguez’s program.

Arizona signed Salpointe Catholic receivers Cameron Denson and Kaelin Deboskie as part of the Class of 2014.

Flannigan also becomes the fifth defensive back commitment for the Class of 2015. Rodriguez and his staff have six commitments on the defensive side of the ball. Gilbert Campo Verde defensive tackle Finton Connolly is the only recruit who does not play in the secondary.

“(Arizona cornerbacks) coach (David) Lockwood told me that he sees me as a big corner,” Flannigan told Scout.com recently. “He told me he likes me at corner because I am a long 6-foot-3 and I can get up and go get the ball.”

Flannigan, 6’3″ and 180 pounds, told Scout.com that he was gaining interest from USC, Utah, BYU, Colorado and Boise State. He was also scheduled to attend camps at ASU and USC.

Another potential Tucson commitment may come from Salpointe defensive tackle Justin Holt, a Class of 2016 standout. Holt is the son of former Arizona linebacker/defensive tackle Julius Holt, who played during the early Larry Smith years in 1981 and 1982.

Justin Holt is only a junior and will likely elect to make up his mind after the upcoming season.

Eight of Arizona’s 15 commitments have been announced this month. ASU has the second-most commitments to date in the Pac-12 with 11.
