Ironwood Ridge beat Marana 62-42 Friday night in a game defined by turnovers, long runs and seemingly little defense. I guess one would have had to see the game in person to realize Marana (0-1) is not as bad as the final score indicates and Ironwood Ridge (1-0) is not quite as good as the 62 points indicates.

Marana fumbled the opening kickoff and Matthew Malkin converted on a 36-yard field goal to give the Nighthawks a 3-0 lead with 7:45 left in the first. The fumble was an omen of things to come for the Tigers. Seven turnovers in all. Some were forced and some not but each appeared to be more devastating than the one before.
