Diego Gomez set the tone early. The Oro Valley Dolphin running back took the opening kickoff 65 yards to give his team a 7-0 lead over the Sahuarita 49ers Saturday afternoon at Amphitheater High School. The Dolphins took advantage of a running game the rest of the way to beat the 49ers 48-0.
Gomez finished with 73 yards and another TD while Colton Raetzman rushed for 82 yards and two scores. Evan Greer added 68 yards on the ground and QB Richard Archuleta threw for 43 and rushed for 36. Wyatt Jones pulled in a 33-yard TD reception and Raetzman collected 10 yards receiving.
Mason Bailey recovered a fumble for the Dolphins and Daniel Atondo added an interception and he gained 32 yards and a TD. Noah Morrison ran in an extra point and Greer added three more.
Taylor Baca, Samuel Navarrete, Brock Trabow and Christopher Hampton handled most of the groundwork for the 49ers while Javier Parsons stepped in under center. Hampton finished with 18 yards rushing. Kannon Windson and Navarrete combined for 15 yards receiving and Jose Diego Chafin recovered a fumble for the 49ers.
