Former Buena standout Marc Matthews signed on to play professional basketball for the Tall Timbers Saints of Smithton, Tasmania.
Matthews ended his prep career at Buena in 2012 with a school-record 1,374 points before heading out to play for Montana State Billings. Matthews earned several honors at Billings including Men’s’ Basketball Player of the Year, Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week (twice) and a United States Basketball Writers Association Division II National Player of the Week honor.
“You don’t have to come from a big city, be highly recruited, or even go to a Division I school to achieve your dreams,” Matthews said. “Work hard and success will follow.”
Matthews is the first professional basketball player from Buena according to head coach Dave Glasgow.
“Marc is a great role model on and off the Court for Sierra Vista kids,” Glasgow said. “This shows them that anything is possible for them.”
The professional season in Australia begins in February.
