Former Sunnyside Standout Roman Bravo-Young to Compete in July 25 FloWrestling Card


Former Sunnyside High School state champion Roman Bravo-Young will be part of an undercard for a wrestling event on July 25 in Austin, Texas, promoted by Flo Wrestling.

Bravo-Young vs. Jack Mueller is one of three undercards for the Kyle DakeFrank Chamizo main event. Dake and Chamizo are each two-time world champions..

The event is produced by FloWrestling. It is scheduled to take place at Omni Austin Hotel at Southpark. You must have a subscription to FloWrestling.com to watch the event live. No tickets are being sold to the event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Other matchups announced for the event include world champion David Taylor vs. World Team member Pat Downey and NCAA champion Anthony Ashnault vs. All-American Luke Pletcher.

After getting clearance from Penn State to compete, Bravo-Young, who is entering his junior year with the Nittany Lions, will take on Mueller, who recently completed his senior season at Virginia. Bravo-Young qualified for the NCAA tournament at 133 pounds last season and Mueller did the same at 125.

They will wrestle each other in the freestyle event at 137 pounds.

Both wrestlers made age-level world teams, with Bravo-Young part of the 2016 Cadet squad and Mueller wrestling for U23 bronze in 2018.

Bravo-Young, who trains in Tucson at JET Multi-Sport Training Facility, made the finals of the Junior Open last year. He also took home a gold from Junior Pan Am competition in June 2019.

He went 182-0 over four years at Sunnyside, winning four straight state titles in the process. He was part of the Blue Devils’ 31st state championship team his senior season.
